Why Am I Talking?

"TalkI'm not always sure why we talk but one thing is certain- we talk, a LOT! In a recent conversation a friend mentioned his on-going effort to listen more attentively and an adaptive coaching tool he has employed to do so. It’s called WAIT (Why Am I Talking). I love the idea but then it got me thinking. Why are we talking? What is the impact of all that talk?

I believe the impact is of greater importance but without knowing why we are talking it really doesn’t matter so much. So, at any given moment, why are we talking?

    Hi Ed,
What a great post on when to talk and when to keep your mouth shut. Actually, what's more valuable to look at here is the many different kinds of communication we use in business and why we use them. And speaking of conversation, we so much appreciate the added conversation this post brings to the BizSugar community.

  2. Heather I agree wholeheartedly that there is so much more to the matter of business communication. My intent here was to look at one of the fundamentals and my hope is to create some thought and action.
So glad to her my posts are reaching the BizSugar community as well.
